Wifi sound degradation

Postby nzlowie » 24 Oct 2016, 15:23

Hi all, I've read the the wifi on the pi music server can degrade the sound, is this true?
I have a pi2 with a hifiberry digi + board driving an active horn setup so I'd like the best possible sound quality.
If it is an issue I could reconnect and control it from the touch screen.

Thanks

Wi-fi in and of itself shouldn't "degrade" the music, this is a bit-perfect system. However, depending on your wi-fi setup and the bit rate of the files you're playing you might find it drops out, pauses, or otherwise gets funky. Ethernet will always get you the best, most reliable connection with the least amount of latency.

With CD-quality 16/44.1 files you shouldn't have any issue on wi-fi unless there's something terribly wrong with your wi-fi. If you start wanting to play 24/192, well, all bets are off and I'd go wired.

Hope this helps.
