My DAC has disappeared

Postby thedman! » 31 Oct 2016, 10:04

Hi,

My system was working fine, I came down to it a couple of days ago and nothing. No playback. I cannot find my DAC in the list of available outputs, I've check config.txt and everything is uncommented as it should be, the only options are HDMI or analog, No IQAudio dac+.

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

My debug gives this, minus some network stuff: (Is that a fault with my DAC??, -517???)

DEBUG details deleted because it was huge...

Hmmm, thanks Frank.

I suspect overheating, unfortunately my Pi seems to be fried too.

As a warning to others, my pi3 and iqaudio dac+ were in a Pi-DAC+ Case (which has very little air current) and the thing that tipped it all over the edge, it was sitting on top of my amp...

When I'm forgiven by the mrs, I'll get an iqaudio Pi-digi amp+ (sell the current amp), drill the appropriate holes in the pi-dac+ case for a small fan, and some more ventilation holes, and NOT leave it somewhere warm.

Now I know my pi and dac are ruined, what would people buy if they had to do it all again?

I'm thinking pi2 and wifi dongle, because they don't run so hot... and an iqaudio Pi-DigiAMP+ (dac and amp combined) and a case with plenty of ventilation.

Anyone any other suggestions?

Give some thought to an Allo Piano DAC and Volt amp, ideally with a Kali reclocker. Good value, highly configurable, great sound.

Pi2 or Pi3, each has its pros and cons, either will run the above hardware.

Ooooh! That looks very interesting! Would it be easy to connect a volume knob to it???
