Dropouts when playing DSD 2.8MHz

Postby draebyllek » 25 Jan 2018, 06:41

Hardware is Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, rev 1.1. Software version is v0.3-beta.

Bought this as a test to see how my first-ever try at this system goes. I don't know much about DSD yet. Extension of the files is dsf.

Playback drops out randomly between 4-20 seconds. Playback is from a USB stick, SanDisk Cruzer Glide 64GB. Using wired ethernet, as if that matters. DAC is NAD modular DAC. I've played other HD material into this amp from my PC and never had a problem, but this is my first time with DSD. Here is another look at the DAC module NAC DAC module.

Don't know what else to provide, but I am a software developer so I'm handy at pulling whatever logs, etc. you want me to give you.

Played this Steely Dan - Gaucho, FLAC 96kHz/24 with no problems. As I type this, playing Linda Ronstadt, Heart Like a Wheel - 192kHz/24. So far, so good!

Hi ,

your DAC only plays files up to 24-bit/192kHz
Product Highlights:

- add-on module for the NAD C 356BEE and C 375BEE integrated amplifiers
- asynchronous USB input for connecting a computer
- supports high-resolution playback from a computer up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution
- optical digital audio input (up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution)
- Cirrus Logic CS4398 high-resolution digital-to-analog converter

The DSD files have to be resampled/converted to PCM to be played.
Your Raspberry can do this, but not on the fly.

I see. I'll take that up with NAD. I wonder how the device is able to play DSD at all then?
