Streaming the PC sound (youtube,...)

Postby YannM » 30 Aug 2016, 14:11

Hi,
I found how to simply upstream the sound of the pc card to Rune (Windows). So here is the way:

* Rune Settings - UPnP / DLNA -> ON
* Install http://www.streamwhatyouhear.com/download/
* A new logo appears near the clock, simply right click on it and select Stream to: RuneAudio UPnP

There is a lag of 2 sec. (so it's of no use for movies), the sound is what it is, and you get ALL the sounds of the laptop (outlook notifications a.o.)
You can disable the sound on the pc through Windows volume control (but not at the software level)

Best,
Yann

Hello,

For some reason I can't make this to work.
SWYH shows RuneAudioUPnP under the "stream to" menu. As I select it I can see in the the Rune UI that the played file is SWYH.wav. I press the "play" button - no sound from rune (the DAC play light is off either)

Do you make it work differently?

Thanks
Dror

Edit: So the problem was I was trying to stream wav or 48khz mp3. Rune will not play them.
In the journal I get this line commonly:
Code: Select all
runeaudio rune_PL_wrk[394]: Warning: Division by zero in /srv/http/app/libs/runeaudio.php on line 830

Hi dror,

on my system (RP2 with HifiberryDAC+) all works like it should.
No matter what i stream (e.g. 24 bit, 48 kHz, 192 kbps) it plays.

So the problem was I was trying to stream wav or 48khz mp3. Rune will not play them.

Without knowing your hardware and settings it's hard to help.

In one of your older posts i found some debug info, don't know if they are valid?
Code: Select all
audio_output {
    name        "snd_rpi_hifiberry_dacplus"
    type        "alsa"
    device      "hw:0,0"
    dsd_native  "yes"
    dsd_native_type     "2"
    auto_resample   "no"
    auto_format     "no"
    enabled     "yes"
}

Hifiberry and DSD can't work!

Hi Frank,
No I don't think that info is valid for my current rune.

Maybe I was misunderstood - I wasn't talking about the streamed content (e.g played file or youtube stream) but for the SWYH settings (right click on icon- settings). By default it is set to 48kHz.

Ok :) then I don't know what the problem is :/

Anyway, FYI mind that SWYH is actually a 1kHz recording of the sound, no matter what you play.

It may be a bit off-topic but I use a Google Chromecast Audio to cast sound from my tablet to my separate DAC, e.g. a concert on Youtube. No Pi involved - sorry!

The sound quality is as good as the Pi (so not bad for another £30 device) and no lag.
