Thank you Frank, that seems to have worked (I'm using Pi 3 > Digi+ with a USB drive attached to the Pi). Seems to be a rather niche issue but something I'm sure a lot of audiophiles will run into as we want to use external DACs with our Pi

Can that fix be implemented into a new software download? I was able to make the edits in Putty but it's not hugely intuitive to non-Linux users.

I'll also say that Rune is great, sounds awesome in my hi-fi, and has removed the laptop from my playback chain. Unfortunately though it gets difficult to recommend this form of music playback (in general) when one has to tinker with complex settings. Not a criticism aimed at you or Rune, just the way I see it as a fairly Windows-literate audiophile

It looks like a fix has been developed for this problem - is it possible to provide a little more information on how to implement the changes needed. I know where the configuration file is but I do not have a clue on how to implement the other steps set out in your instructions in this forum post.

Would it be possible for you to provide some simpler steps to follow.

Simpler... may be an issue, right now (until a later version of Rune is released). But this may help...

Thanks for the steer - used the SSH etc and it looks like have have sorted the problem of channel swapping.

Unfortunately it looks like I have done something to Spotify which was running OK (with the channel swap) before I made the changes. Now Spotify will not run - when trying to access Spotify I get the "continuous circle" symbol. There is a similar problem set out on the forum - using Putty to find the "fault log" it says that Runeaudio is failing to connect to Spotify. Spotify is running OK on all other devices.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

I still have the issue with not being able to play Spotify.

Rune recognises my playlists. When a playlist is selected the queue is populated but when a track is played nothing happens.

Is there a way to locate the configuration file for spoitify - another forum post uses the comman line - /etc/spop/spopd.conf - when I use this I get the following:

For what? To get audio from spotify?

Have you tried to switch the audio output (MENU->Mpd->Audio output interface) while connected to spotify?
Try to select HDMI and back to your DAC.

The only audio output interface available is the hifi berry interface. There is no HDMI or Analogue output listed. These 2 options "disappeared" when the issue of channel swapping was resolved.

I think you didn't follow my instructions or forgot to set:

dtparam=audio=on

in /boot/config.txt as described here.

An update for you - I was unable to get Spotify to stream following the various instructions you kindly provided - thank you for these.

I had given up - I was able to stream Spotify via another device so decided to go with this.

I then decided to attach the RPI to my DAC via USB to see what it sounded like playing files stored on a USB drive - it is also attached via coaxial cable via a hifiberry digi + - anyway for some reason I can now stream Spotify via the hifiberry attached via coaxial (though not via the USB).

Just thought I would let you know in case it is useful information.

I hit the left / right channel swapping issue yesterday.
I hadn't noticed it until I was listening to an acoustic guitar trio where the lead is playing very obviously on the right and the rest of the band fill in on the left.
It was very obvious that the channels were swapping over.

After a bit of googling / background reading I followed the instructions in this thread and the issue appears to have gone.

I had the same issue on my Raspberry Pi3 with pi-dac+. First I thought my glorious Sennheiser was the problem. I started pulling out cables and switching them, etc... Till I found this thread.

I applied your fix. And everything sounds splendid!

Another vote of thanks to Frank for taking the trouble to post a walk-through to mitigate the Kernel problem when using RP3 with Rune - fantastic

I'm using RP3, latest Rune 0.4 beta, with 7" Touch (thanks for your work on this too Frank - screen works and looks great with Rune) and an IQAudIO DAC+. I didn't encounter the channel swap problem until I experimented with a ripped-to-flac CD which of course was presented as 16-bit data and after repeating with a raw wav file I hit the forums for info...

Related - but strictly speaking off-topic - (sorry): with the updated Kernel fixes what does this mean for the optimisation settings? I started out with OrionV3 for the IQAudIO DAC but ended up with RuneAudio as my listening preference (a tad softer/smoother, I fancied) - do I need to go through them all again? Do they do/mean anything now that the Kernel has been changed...? I had a look at the debug output when I was experimenting with each setting but couldn't see any changes (apart from the optimisation setting itself). I know it's a different thread but would like to know a bit more about optimisation choices and what they actually do...

Is there likely to be an updated Rune compatible with RP3 and all fixes included...? Definitely going to make a copy of my SD card anyhow! I'm persevering with Rune because it's OS and interface is dedicated to audio reproduction, which has got to be the way to go for a HiFi enthusiast.
