cyber7 wroteI would like to know if there is a place that I can do an add-in into the GUI. Would be nice to be able to do this from the front-end

We will allow execution of custom scripts from UI in the future. In the meanwhile I can point you in the right direction to hack the UI for your needs.
cyber7 wroteAt this stage what I have (see aubreykloppers.wordpress.com for the full write-up) is a script that lets you fade from your current volume to a next volume over time and keep it there.
I've just seen the RuneAudio vs Volumio article, thank you for the nice comparison
cyber7 wroteOne of the major obstacles I currently face is to add "bc" (pacman -S bc) without doing a "pacman -Syu". If I do a "pacman -Syu" and restart the system, the network does not want to work anymore... (But whilst not restarting, "bc" does, however, work)...
In the near future it will be possible to perform updates in a slight safer way. We aim to
setup a repository to host our custom recompiled packages, you can find them here along with their PKGBUILD files:
https://github.com/RuneAudio/RuneOS
A custom repository would allow users to update the system with pacman (Arch Linux package manager) including the updated versions of our packages. We would like to keep GitHub as the place to upload the package, so our idea was to setup a repository which should be managed via symlinks (pointing to the files on GitHub) or to automatically mirror the files and serve them directly.
We never had yet the required time to dig into that, so I'll ask if anybody here has some experience with it and could help managing it. It would be a huge contribution to the project.
