Rpi B+ v0.3 + AudioQuest DragonFly V1.2 = No sound

thanhvo31

Kindly have a look at my issue NO SOUND

Rpi B+ v0.3 sound nicely with HRT microstreamer and TEAC UD-501, but no luck with DragonFly V1.2

I had try Volumio, also no luck. DragonFly worked nicely with Windows box or Android 5.0.

Below is my debug

Thank you.

I guess reading and searching through the forums is too difficult for you......as this has been addressed a bunch of times.....my DragonFly works just fine in my B+

try checking your alsamixer

thanhvo31

Actually I had google a lot and try alsamixer but no luck. Could you post your debug data on working Pi+ Dac? Thanks.

cmh714

interesting...then I assume you hit the F6 key in alsamixer to select the DAC? it will take me a bit to switch my setup over to get the debug info for you. Currently my B+ is plugged into my Rotel DAC, but I will take the time to swicth over for you.

From what I see of your debug it looks good, but I aint no expert.

cmh714

Heres my pastebin for you to look at: http://pastebin.com/Z2VCednv

My setup is DragonFly and my powered USB hub are in 2 of the USB slots of the Pi. My wireless and USB drive are plugged into the hub. For this debug, I removed the drive so it wont show up in there.

Also I have the version 1 of the DragonFly....I see you have DSD enabled but I dont believe that it can do DSD...

Still no luck here. Pi B +DragonFly V1.2, try with alsamixer,.. both Rune and Volumio.

I am trying with Pi MusicBox now and see...

Hi thanhvo31,
have you tried to switch between different kernel version? You can do that right from the UI in the Settings screen (a reboot is required after that). Try to pick a older kernel and see if there's come difference.

Hi AXC, thanks for advice. I 'll try and update.

Update: Still no luck with kernel change game.

Have you tried using external USB hub?
It may be the power is not enough. I have Audioengine D1 and it is not working until I use the USB hub

cmh714

for 0.3beta I did NOT have to switch any kernels or the startup parameters. for the 0.3alpha I did make those changes as I have documented in other threads on this issue.

I suppose if you really want I can try and make you an image for you to test with from a backup of mine.....

I don't have USB hub to try at the moment but I think <98mA DragonFly draws is quite enough. I suppose something change with DragonFly v1.2 firmware from V1.0 reported working well.

Thanks for your kind support. If compilation an image is not waste your time much so I am very happy to test. Thank again.

cmh714

Sure, I will flash you a clean Rune from the image, get it updated with git pull and pacman, and get the DragonFly working with just the eth0 interface. I'll back it up, zip it and post it.....stay tuned for a link, I will try and do this now but it may not post till tomorrow.

cmh714

file is being uploaded now Thanh, probably post the link for you tomorrow since its getting a little late here.

My good deed for the day....I will guess you may be Buddhist. I have the Bodhisattva Quan Am on a chain around my neck

Huge thank to your work. I am not a 100% Buddhist but I went to Pagoda worship sometimes. You said Quan Am means you're Vietnamese ?

cmh714

Nope not Vietnamese, but I assumed you were

I am just into Buddhism a bit.

Heres the link for you: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wihwr3zjbw9bon8/Rune3betaDragonFly.img.gz?dl=0

Its Gzip'ed, so unzip it, and flash and you should be good to go. Like I said its a 1.0 DragonFly but I have used my images before for my buddy who has a 1.2 so it should work fine.

I tested streaming radio and it was good. The only thing I had to do to make it work was adjust alsamixer to get sound as it was set to 0db for the DragonFly.

Thank you, I'll test and update soon.

Edit: Strange, the image after unzip is more than 8GB??? Could you provide MD5? I saw it >3GB in 7z. And dropbox speed is really pain for me say 80-90kbps.

thanhvo31

Finally I had tested but still no sound, obviously after playing with alsamixer.

thanhvo31

I just found a topic http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2014/04/shoot-trouble-usb-audio-interfaces.htmlabout USB Audio.

And I had already run to step 6 to speaker-tested successful to AQ DF1.2 but no further progress on step 7.

cmh714

I am out on the road Thanh and dont have my Pi or my images with me. Thats a clean image and was playing music fine when I zipped it up for you. I already tweaked alsamixer so the sound would work, so thats very interesting that you are still having trouble. I mean the only difference is the DAC as mine is the 1.0 and yours the 1.2

I will ask my buddy to bring over his 1.2 when I get back home at the end of the week to see if there is any difference. I will use the image I sent you and let you know what/if anything that I find.

Is it possible that you have a defective Pi or something like that? anyway to test in another Pi?
