ACX wrote This is something that has our interest, so please give us a feedback when you manage to do a sound quality comparison between the different solutions. While doing that please try the "sound signatures" in the Settings section of the UI and see if you find one that best fits your taste.
Hello,
Finally something to report. It took some time to eliminate the bad flac files that caused the scanning process to terminate.
My set-up: Raspberry Pi B+ with Hifiberry Digi+, connected to a coax input of a Lyngdorf TDAI2170 digital amp and DAC. USB-Hub to use more silent 2.5 in 2TB disk w\o power supply (my larger ones are louder).
I found the differences among the sound signatures very small. Overall, I liked ACX best, however. Didn't find any differences among the orion settings.
Then I compared this with daphile running on an old Samsung netbook and hooked up to the Lyngdorf via USB. This gave slightly bettter results with a deeper sound stage and more transparency. However, I think this is more a comparison of the 35 Euro Hifiberry against the Lyngdorf USB module costing 11 times as much. In the latter case, the reclocking is happening within the Lyngdorf, while in the former case the little board does the job. So this result is no real surprise, but it does show that the Hifiberry is really very good.
Unfortunately, these tests also showed that I can only play dff-files through the Lyngdorf's USB-input, but not via S/Pdiff. So I will have to change my set-up (I may already have a buyer for the Raspi-Hifiberry Combo). Using the Raspi's USB ports is not option, they are quite noisy and crackle, as they share a common lane, also with the ethernet controller. The Banana Pi would be better in this regard, and apparently also the CuBox i, the latter is apparently supported by Rune. Other possible options might be the Odroid models U3 or C1. If anyone has tried those, please report! Is RuneAudio limited to the ARM-architecture, or can it also run on AMD hardware like the new fitlet passively cooled computer

Two oddities I noticed: Sometimes Firefox on my Cyanogenmod Samsung S3 dies when running Rune, and my background image changes (moves to the next one). I can restart firefox w\o problems, but it is a little bit weird.
When playing dff files (via USB), RuneAudio shows a sampling rate of 352.8, even though these ought to be dsd64 files. I would have expected half that rate. The Lyngdorf supposedly can handle dsd128 files (but only via USB).
Looking forward to RuneAudio 0.4, keep up the good work!
