My 0.3 beta rig is now running OK – Rpi B+ and iqAUDIO DAC+ streaming by wireless (Edimax) from my NAS.
Early on I had high CPU usage (as did several others) and remembered a tip from the 0.3 alpha forum topic ...
Via SSH, I did
mpc outputs
and found that both bcmALSA and iqaudiodac outputs were enabled.
That was fixed by doing
mpc enable only 2
(in my case, iqaudiodac was the second output) – and CPU usage dropped dramatically.
Decided to check this out further playing a 24 bit/96 kHz track ...
With 2 outputs the mpd cpu usage was 48 to 52%
With just 1 output it dropped to 11 to 16%
Then I overclocked my RPi B+ (via config.txt) to the TURBO setting and the mpd CPU usage dropped further still - 6 to 9%
Playing a 24/192 track increased this but only to 11 to 13%
Did Debug (under the MENU drop down) several times – took between 1.9 and 2.3 secs which is certainly faster than my 0.3 alpha experience.
CPU temperature is of interest especially with overclocking. This can be checked by doing
cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
Mine was 42.2 C in an ambient temperature of 16 C with no CPU heat sink and enclosed in an iqAUDIO DAC+ case.
Playing a 24/192 track quickly raised this to 43.3 C and it remained there during the 9 mins track duration then quickly fell back to 42.2 C.
Temperature is not an issue for me with overclocking and the UI is certainly very responsive.
So thanks again to the RuneAudio guys
