Enable FIFO Output

Hello all,

I'm starting a project where I need the FIFO (pipe) output from MPD.
I have added the following lines to /etc/mpd.conf:

audio_output {
type    "fifo"
name    "my_fifo"
path    "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
format  "44100:16:2"
}

And I've also commented out the following lines in /var/www/command/rune_SY_wrk

// refesh audio hardware status (soundcards and MPD config)
// wrk_mpdconf($redis,'refresh');

However, upon a reboot, I'm unable to make the settings stick and the FIFO section of /etc/mpd.conf disappears.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi siam28,
the right file is /etc/mpd.conf, have you edited that one?
When you manually edit it you should only get a warning in the UI, telling you that manual modifications have been done, losing the possibility to use the configuration wizard. But manual modifications should stay after a reboot... what else did you do?

Hi ACX,

I did indeed edit /etc/mpd.conf. That was a typo on my part.
I've edited /etc/mpd.conf again on a fresh install of the 0.3-alpha image with the same edit of /var/www/command/rune_SY_wrk.
And the changes are sticking.
However, now I'm stuck on "Connecting" when I go to the WebUI.
MPD seems to fail to be started when I add the FIFO output.
Is MPD compiled with the FIFO output enabled?

We didn't disable it, take a look at the PKGBUILD:

You can check it also with this command:

mpd --version

Hello ACX,

I found the issue. The reason the MPD service was failing was due to a permission issue.
I had to give the "mpd" user ownership of /tmp/mpd.fifo.
I was creating it as root via mkfifo.
