I'm using an RPi 3, with Rune release version: 0.4 (build: beta-20160313).
I'm impressed (I'm easily impressed!) by the use of mDNS by Rune to advertise itself, using the avahi-daemon so that clients etc. can find the Rune instance using "runehostname.local".
I have another non-Rune RPi 3 running Debian, the standard RPi o/s, as a file server and media server. It also uses avahi-daemon and mDNS to advertise itself, and it is also visible to clients using "server.local", at least from my Mac.
However, the Rune instance cannot see "server.local" - it basically can't resolve that name, so I can't refer to "server.local" to connect the network drive with the audio files on it. I have had to "hard configure" the server IP address, and despite my best attempts, my stupid router won't reliably serve up the same IP address to the server, so that the Rune doesn't always find it and the media files. Boo.
With the help of
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/43762/how-do-i-get-to-use-local-hostnames-with-arch-linux, I have resolved this problem!
- Install nss-mdns on the Rune server
pacman -S nss-mdns
- this provides code for Rune to use mDNS to perform lookups
After that, I can enter "server.local" in the IP Address field of the Network Mounts config screen, Rune finds it, and everyone is happy!!
Could you consider adding this to the standard build, Frank? Unless you did already, and I missed it or whatever... Respect and thanks to your amazing efforts!
