Rune is a great product. It will be ashamed to let it fade away into obscurity. Perhaps active recruitment of someone who is willing [has the time] to take over the reigns?

There seems to be at least 2-3 very capable coders here who are not on the Rune team.

It is very frustrating when a project which has pretty much become a part of daily life stalls like this. Is there anyone out there who could work out how to hide the volume control when it is disabled and how to make the UI buttons larger and with more space between them? That, and making the play/pause icon toggle correctly, is all I would require from a version 2.

Failing that, what are the alternatives to Rune?

I did see a post where someone worked out how to hide the volume control and made other tweaks to the GUI.

It's likely buried inside one of these threads. Which goes back to a suggestion to consolidate some of these fixes and tweaks users have come up with over the years. There is a FAQ section but none of it seems dedicated to fixing or changing anything with the player.

I really do think they should let someone take over....

During my time off I might just go ahead and consolidate some of the useful information I find here for my own edification if nothing else.

By the way, a GUI for GPIO control relay module is in my pre-release testing.

Features:
(with GPIO connected relay module)
- Turn on / off audio gears in sequence
- Delay can be set for each device
- Idle Timer power off
- Notification broadcast for on, off and idle off warning
- Integrated into existing RuneUI

No promise but it should be released in a couple days.

Indeed, it would be great to get more feedback.
For me the UI is nearly perfect, because i use a tablet (10") and the local display (7").
As all my DACs have hardware volume available i didn't see the need for hiding the volume knob.

If the majority use phones to control Rune, it would really make sense to adapt the UI.
