crash when switching from flac to mp3

Hi everybody,

My Rasp3 has been crashing for some time. I had no idea why, but now I detect a pattern. I have a long playlist and the crash happens always when Runeaudio switches from playing a flac song to an mp3 song. Runeaudio plays the first couple of seconds of the mp3 file, then sound is gone.

The mp3 files are fine, as I can play them fine in any other player on my computer (even directly from the Raspberry Pi3), so I'm sure it's not a question of a corrupt mp3 file.

And it happens with all mp3 files I tried so far.

Runeaudio becomes unresponsive. I cannot restart the stream or select another song. I have to disconnect the power and reconnect the Raspberry Pi3 again to connect to it.

I am using an Is2dac (Pi-dac+). And wifi.

Any ideas?

When the crash happens, and it happens with all mp3's Runeaudio becomes unresponsive. No music. I cannot select another song, etc...
But I can still connect to my Raspberry using ssh. I can access files, browse them, delete them (what I do with the offending files). When I'm connected through Filezilla or Nemo, the connection stays. So wifi is not lost.

I have no idea what it is (I don't know enough about this stuff), but I was thinking it might be MPD probem. So I ssh'd into the Raspberry en did

MPD --version

. This is the result. Is this ok? Shouldn't there be lame in Encoders plugins?

Hi,
It happens to me as well (it happened twice already). Two days ago I started burning in my new headphones, so i prepared few hours long track list. Mostly flac files, but also few mp3 at the end. And the problem starts 8 seconds after running first mp3 file. Symptoms are exactly the same as mattra described.
After restart, continuation of track list or any other mp3 file is causing the problem again, but from first second of the mp3 file.
After restart and removing queue I can start any flac file but not mp3.
Few weeks ago I updated runeaudio (git pull) and kernel and firmware (pacman -Sy --force raspberrypi-firmware-bootloader linux-raspberrypi).
I have external USB DAC.
Few flacs and then mp3 in the list does not trigger it.

It is quite easy to recreate the problem. Prepare queue by adding 6 CDs with flac files (first by "Add, replace and play", others by "Add") and 1 CD with mp3 ("Add"), when flac file plays try to play mp3 file from queue.

Hi,

i did some quick tests with my RP3 and Hifiberry DAC+.

What happens when you stop the player before selecting the mp3?

BTW: I also did a kernel and firmware update.

Hi Tom,

so there is an issue with your DAC (or driver) not switching to the correct samplerate.
Sorry, but at the moment i have no solution for this.

But when the queue is short there is no problem switching between flac and mp3.
Also in the past when I was burning in my previous headphones (over year ago) there was no problem with even longer queues (several hours of mixed tracks (flac, mp3, flac 96kHz)). DAC was the same (Burson Conductor).

Hi Tom,

as this does not happen for me it is hard to debug.
If you like to help please try:

- navigate to http://your-pi-ip/dev
- enable debug mode
- go to MENU->MPD and set log level to verbose
- play around with your device until it happens again
- check the log files in /var/log/runeaudio for errors and report

I don't know if this means anything, but I tried to go directly to an mp3 song. It played for 15 seconds and then stopped. Time indicator on the left continues as if playing the song, but there is no sound and runeaudio becomes unresponsive.

What I do is this: I delete the mp3 file (I can still access the Raspberry Pi and browse the files), cut the power and restart.

But I remarked something strange: the mp3 file, which is 320 kbps was marked (under MPD playing position) as being 24bit? Isn't that an error? How can a 320 kbps file be 24bit?

And the thing is, these files used to play fine...
