Wireless Setup (solved)

Hi -
I'm trying to set up the WiFi on my Pi3B using the Pi inbuilt wireless. It seems to pick-up every wireless device in the neighbourhood
except my router! The router has SSID broadcast enabled, so that isn't the problem. This is with RuneAudio 3.0.4 Beta.

I did wonder whether Rune was smart enough to figure out that the router was already connected (via Ethernet) and thus
didn't bother showing it as a a wireless connection as well? But, this seems at odds with the wireless setup instructions
which pretty much all seem to connect to a router to do the wireless setup.

I can't see a way round this at the moment, so any/all advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Hi PiGuy,

please check the channel your router is set to.
Our current image only can use channels 1 - 11.

With updating the kernel and setting the correct reg domain also channels higher than 11 are usable.

I changed the channel on the router and it worked straight away! Brilliant.
Just listening to some Allman Brothers on headphones into the Pi.

Now - just need to get a DAC.

For a bloody beginner: what does that mean in few words? Do I have to change source code and cross compile this beautiful project?

Hi Peter,

please read this for the kernel update.

Next install crda and uncommented your country region in /etc/conf.d/wireless-regdom.

pacman -Sy crda

nano /etc/conf.d/wireless-regdom

Thanks for your fast reply. It solved the reg domain problem and let me discover higher wifi channels.
Unfortunately, I am not sure, what step brought me the solution...

As you described, I updated the kernel with

pacman -Sy --force raspberrypi-firmware-bootloader linux-raspberrypi

after having resized my sd card as described in your link.
(For some bandwidth problems, I had to run the kernel update command twice...)

For some reasons, crda was already installed. I have had not changed the conf.d/wireless-regdom file... but tried this before:

export COUNTRY=DE
crda

but got the error

failed to set regulatory domain: -7

So I looked into the conf.d file that already included the right reg domain (DE). Finally, the wifi channel appeared in the wifi list.
