Want to use USB & Jack outputs

Hi,

Is there a way to use both outputs (USB/SPDIF & Jack), at the same time with rune audio/rpi 3 ?

Hi djsebfr,

try this:

- get access to the console
- execute this command

mpc outputs

to list the outputs and their state

mpc enable 1

to enble output 1 (change to your number)

mpc knows these commands for switching outputs

disable <output #>
    Disables the output, number is required. 
enable <output #>
    Enables the output, number is required. 
outputs
    Lists all available outputs

Use SSH from your PC

If you are not familiar with SSH read this for Windows or this for Linux/MacOS
The default login for RuneAudio is "root" with the password "rune" (without quotes).

I am using the both outputs at the same time like this :

-RPI3 > USB SPDIF > Digital Amp "without subwoofer output"
-RPI3 > Jack > Active Subwoofer

have fun with Runeaudio.

I would like to do this as to examplify the differences in audio quality between my Hifiberry DAC and the normal Rpi output.

Can I do the same for the Hifibarry DAC output?
If so, do you think it has any affect over sound quality of the the DAC? (crosstalk, interferences etc..)

Yes you can.

In theory it shouldn't, but if you are hunting for the very best sound i wouldn't do it.
- you'll get higher CPU usage
- the power supply may be polluted by the other output (especially analog output)
- you may get higher jitter on your digital (I2S) output

This are the reasons why Rune enables only one output at a time.

Tried this but,

mpc outputs

only shows

Output 1 (snd_rpi_hifiberry_dacplus) is enabled

in alsamixer F6 shows me only the Hifiberry.
Moreover in Menu > MPD Configuration > Audio Output, I can only choose Hifiberry DAC+, though I remember I used to see the option to choose the analog output instead. Also checked /etc/modules-load.d/raspberrypi.conf and snd-bcm2835 is uncommecnted.

if i remember correctly you have updated the kernel (Accesspoint), right?
If so, you have to edit config.txt.

* add "dtparam=audio=on" to your /boot/config.txt

        # Uncomment one of these lines to enable an audio interface
        #dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac
        #dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus
        #dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi
        #dtoverlay=hifiberry-amp
        #dtoverlay=iqaudio-dac
        #dtoverlay=iqaudio-dacplus
        dtparam=audio=on

This will reenable the analog output.

Anyway, first quick attempt showed the jack output is has EXTREME noise (square wave like) when both outputs are active and playing.
