Also I've yet to find a guide to getting jack to play nice with the RPI. I keep looking in the hope of somebody figuring it out.
Well, I cannot get it to work with my hifiberry. my hardware looks like this:
# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 1: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
When I start it I get:
jackd -r -d alsa -d hw:0
jackd 0.124.1

configuring for 48000Hz, period = 1024 frames (21.3 ms), buffer = 2 periods
ALSA: final selected sample format for capture: 16bit little-endian
ALSA: use 2 periods for capture
but this does not seem right because I can do this with MPD playing or not. If I use hw:1, it will not try to connect and tell me that something is using the hardware:
ATTENTION: The playback device "hw:1" is already in use. Please stop the application using it and run JACK again

When I try it with mpd stopped, I get:
# jackd -r -d alsa -d hw:1

It looks like mmap is missing from the i2s driver.
