Background noise

mokskei

Dear all
Using Raspberry Pi 3 Model B together with Iquadio DAC+. Whenever I play .flac files, there always background noise (Hiss). The sound is clear when I play .mp3 audios. Going for Hi Res Music is my main objective of the project. Anything I can do?

Thanks

Problem is solved. I overlooked the manual in IQuadio. Just issues alsamixer and decrease the Digital Volume to lower than the "Red" bar will lessen the background noise.

Update information: Background noise goes away only when HDMI cable is connected! As soon as HDMI cable is pull out, it comes back despite the volume is much smaller than before. Any idea or suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

He gets noise when HDMI is unplugged not plugged.

please post the output from

cat /proc/asound/card*/pcm*/sub*/hw_params

- while playing mp3, flac, HDMI plugged and unplugged.

This also may be related to your power supply (ground).

Dear All
I don't know if it is solved or not. I tried to use a powerbank (the one I used to charged my iphone/ipad when I go out) supplying a 5V voltage but 2.1A to the Pi3, noise are all gone. Is it directly related to the power supply?

Hi mokskei,

I think you have solved the problem yourself with the 'trial and error' strategy. I use a power pack with my Pi and DAC+ setup as I find it sounds much better overall, but it's a bother due to having to recharge every other day or so. Do Iquadio have a forum? If so, you may ask there as they may have run across this before. Or, email them. What power supply were you using before the change to the power bank? Details about that may shed some light in this issue.

rastus.

Don't know what I did with this post.

Hi Rastus
I bought the "Official microUSB Power Supply Unit for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B" from RS Online.
