UI not responsive

b/c I can't be sure it is related. If not helpful, feel free to ignore...

Symptoms (after a few hours of no activity):

UI does open and so do individual screens (Library, Playback, Queue).
Clicking on individual tracks in Queue screen moves cursor to random different track
No play.
Playback screen shows random fanart instead of album cover.
Queue screen "hunts" (scrolls up/down before settling down)
Play sometimes starts but no sound.
ssh login works, but with a delay of 20+ seconds b/f password accepted.
No response to systemctl status commands... examples:

Failed to get properties: Connection timed out
[root@runeaudio ~]# systemctl status rune_SY_wrk
Failed to get properties: Connection timed out

[root@runeaudio ~]# rm journalctl.txt
[root@runeaudio ~]# journalctl >journalctl.txt
[root@runeaudio ~]# reboot
Failed to start reboot.target: Connection timed out

Failed to talk to init daemon.

[root@runeaudio ~]# shutdown now
Failed to start poweroff.target: Connection timed out

first of all i had to look up urban dictionary for b/c

b/c
A word commonly used by teenagers while in Instant Messages or chat rooms. Short for "because".
I like cheese b/c it is yellow.

Sorry if i am a bit old fashion, but .......

To your problem:
- device?
- image?
- remote OS and browser?
- "after a few hours of no activity" does mean what? Device is up and running but no browser active?
- connection is established by IP or AVAHI (player name)?
- stock image or is something changed?

Please check "top" and "free" and report used memory.

Yes, sorry... most of my counterparts are half my age, and I pick up bad habits. On the plus side, none of them have called me pops in a meeting in ummmm... weeks...

edit: note, not my problem, and not MY usual use case. I only posted this because I was trying to duplicate Stefan's post.

Device: Rpi2 w. USB DAC (Nuforce Icon HDP), WiFi, IR remote via lirc, 4A supply, HDD NOT connected atm (==at-the-moment)
Image: release version: 0.4 (build: beta-20160313)
Remote OS: Ubuntu 14.04 (Linux EliteBook 3.13.0-85-generic #129-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 17 20:50:15 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux)
Browser: Firefox for Ubuntu
Few hours: Power on without reboot for several hours, but not used or logged into with ssh.
Connection: Established by bookmark and static IP from Firefox

edit #2: same Pi2 and image that sometimes does not dismount USB flash w. multiple partitions from Menu->Sources->USB Mounts (but probably not related, this does not require hours to show up).
