Does my RP3 have to be shutdown regularly?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am a newbe. Can my Raspberry Pi 3 run 24/7 or does it need to be shutdown when not in use? release version: 0.4 (build: beta-20160313)

There's never a "dumb question", only dumb answers. So to answer your question, I do not know (how's that for a dumb answer). But, being as it's Linux (not Windows) I would say it could be left on without causing trouble. But, I would not when "not in use"... it uses power (keep it green, be aware of your carbon footprint please). Nothing I own is left on standby over night ever, think fire, think money, think green.

If you ran your Pi for a year it would cost around $10. There is nothing wrong with leaving the Pi on 24/7, as it will only consume as much power as it requires and as there are no moving parts, there is nothing to wear out.

Well as I live in a rain forest area in northern NSW, and as we don't yet have power to our property, and as we only use the generator when needed, and as the local koala's have been eating too many eucalyptus leaves (and stealing my gunja), and as your children will have to live with the consequences of your actions, I don't care.
