Wifi problem - Ralink MT7601U dongle

Hi all,

I am having trouble setting up wifi on my pi using the runeaudio img file provided by iqaudio. It isn't showing up under the network section using the runeaudio UI - only ETHO. Everything is working great using a wired connection but I really need to get the wifi working as my main system is far from the router.

May I add that I am a complete novice and am trying to learn by reading various posts on this forum. I have installed putty.exe on my computer and using the lsusb command the dongle is showing.

I've tried to copy the debug info but it exceeds the character limit - is there any particular part that would be useful to diagnose the problem?

Easiest way is to use pastebin.

4. Go to http://pastebin.com and paste the debug output in the "New Paste" textarea. Leave the default options (Syntax Highlighting: None, Paste Expiration: Never, Paste Exposure: Public), give a name to il (e.g. RuneAudio debug info) and submit.
5. Copy the url of the submitted Pastebin (e.g. http://pastebin.com/dL1k9irT) and include it in your post here in the forum.

with your current installation chances to get it working are very low.

Support for these dongles is not the best on linux for arm devices like the Pi.

What you can try is to use the latest image for your Pi.
This image has a driver for the MT7601U dongle, but no firmware.
To get it working you have to download the file mt7601u.bin:

wget https://github.com/porjo/mt7601/raw/master/src/mcu/bin/MT7601.bin -O /lib/firmware/mt7601u.bin

Thanks again for your reply Frank. So would the simplest solution be to buy another dongle? If so what would be the best option?

Yes,
- install the new image
- get access to the console via ssh
- execute the command from above

Use SSH from your PC

If you are not familiar with SSH read this for Windows or this for Linux/MacOS
The default login for RuneAudio is "root" with the password "rune" (without quotes).

New image file works a treat, the wifi connection showed immediately and it was just a question of configuring the connection.
