Hi TommyBoy,
feeling sad.. feeling lost, stuck again..
This doesn't help at all.
they are all listed as full signal,
If you mean the leftmost icon in the list, this doesn't tell you anything about the signal strength.
my own routers are located 4 feet away, dont show up. none of them..
The internal wifi module only uses channels 1 to 11 (2412 MHz - 2462 MHz), maybe your router is on a different channel.

How many APs are on your list? More then ten?
plug in a USB super cool wifi doungle with external antenna (works perfectly with old pi and 0.3 rune)
You can't use two wifi modules at once.
To use your external one, you have to disable the internal.
Edit "/etc/modprobe.d/disable_rpi3_wifi_bt.conf" and remove the # in front of the wifi entries.
##wifi
#blacklist brcmfmac
#blacklist brcmutil
##bt
#blacklist btbcm
#blacklist hci_uart
to
##wifi
blacklist brcmfmac
blacklist brcmutil
##bt
#blacklist btbcm
#blacklist hci_uart
Edit:
As you had two wifi devices active you also should do:
systemctl disable netctl-auto@wlan1
