Software Failure!

garethsnaim

Hello.
I have just downloaded this software to give it a try on a Pi 2, I have purchased a superfast microssd card and installed with windiskimager.

It boots up fine and I currently have it plugged into a screen where I can see the interface

However if I try to go to it via a browser I get a big ugly flashing sign telling me: Software Failure.Press left mouse button to continue.
Guru Meditation #0000022.65045032.

This is on Safari, in OSX

On chrome OSX its fine, and on iphone and surface its fine, so I am guessing an incompatibility with safari, which of course I use the most!

Is there a work around?

Hi garethsnaim,

You are using a wrong URL to connect to the UI.

Use either:
http://runeaudio.local
or
the IP like http://192.168.0.100

rikardo1979 wrotecan you post a screenshot please?

No need for this, you can easily test this on your system:
connect to http://runeaudio/xyz or http://your-IP/xyz

I am connecting to the right IP the software failure bit is in the rune interface, plus its the same IP I am using on other devices

Rune and Safari don't like each other it would appear

thx
so at least we can see now

better see once than hear(read about) 1000 times

And as you can see it just proves

Hi,

garethsnaim wrotethe software failure bit is in the rune interface

Believe me, the failure is on your side.
This message only appears if you have the wrong URL (and i didn't say wrong IP).
Test this with a working device/browser by using wrong URL like "http://runeaudio.local/xyz", you will get the same picture.

You can also try to disable all security features in safari.

I genuinely have no idea what you are on about regarding URLs, I don't need a URL I know the IP. The IP on any other browser and device works but not on safari.

I have been playing all afternoon with Rune. I love the interface however I suspect that Raspberry PI is not really up to the task. Its been scanning literally all day on the music files of which there is not tonnes, it seems to have bummed out at around M, no amount of cajoling will get it to do any more scanning although it says it is updating.

But I guess the main issue for me is no album artwork until the album is playing, I can understand the pressures this probably puts on a little PI, but still its a something I cannot do without.

Its nice but not for me, so I'll bump back to Daphile for now. I'll possibly get the PI 3 and see how that goes.

Hi garethsnaim, probably there's something haning on a lower level. Please log into your player via SSH and type the following commands:

systemctl restart rune_SY_wrk
systemctl restart rune_PL_wrk

Does it unlock your UI?

PiFi

Hi garethsnaim,

if the scanning is really slow, are you sure you have no other (non-music, e.g. video) files present under the folder you are importing?

On my own system, I witnessed that one single DVD under my music directory used up some 3 hours (mpd was scanning the .VOB files). So my advice is to take a look if you have no .avi .mpg .mpeg .VOB etc. in the folder (or subfolders) you're trying to import into the mpd database.

Kind regards,
PiFi

garethsnaim

Hi, I do not think there is anything untoward in their. I'll have a poke around.

I would like to get the PI used as Audio. Its certainly not the server end, i.e. its ex corporate equipment dual quad core beast of a thing, I consistently get 110MB/s down 60MB/s up on this thing. Daphile scanned the same folder in around 5 minutes. (On a 'proper' computer mind)

I'll plug it back in and see if I can get a log off it.

I take it Volmio is basically the same thing, the classic 'linux fork of death' type scenario? Did any forks allow for album art to be displayed?

garethsnaim

OK volumio scanned the lot very quickly and without issue. However the interface is somewhat slower, perhaps you guys could merge back, lol.

rikardo1979

I could not make Volumio display track ID right. And their approach is very bad to people...definitely not going back an can not recommend to anyone

Hi,

Has someone forced you to use it?

It would be more helpfull if you explain what your problem is.
Do you mean the album art on the main screen?
This works very well if you have tagged your music correctly.

Or would you like album art on the library?

Hi Frank. I detect a hint of impatience there from you, sorry if I am not being clear enough and I can assure you I have no ill will towards anyone in the community, I just find it amusing that if there is one version of something linux, invariably there are twelve others, I think the you tube vids 'why linux sux' sums up my frustrations.

Traditionally on pretty much every single music play/streamer I have used, and boy I think I have tried them all, if I choose album view to browse music, then I see the album artwork for each album. On better players in artist view you see the artist as well (plex for instance)

On Rune there is no art work until such time as the music is playing. Unless you can tell me something different? Also wouldnt it be fantastic if the GUI local to the device could display full screen artwork that moves to stop screen burn?

When there's an airbus crash, I prefer to rule out pilot error before assigning blame to mechanical or electronic failure.

garethsnaim

Wow, ok then, this escalated quickly. On that basis I assume that its just me that does not see album art in album view?

Well, now that you mention it, yes. I would say brother if you want help, be nice TO those helping.

Edit: hondagx35 is one of the most patient, nicest, admins I've ever had the good fortune to observe in action. He knows this Pi + Rune setup inside out, he answers questions on all the Rune forums, not just this Pi one. He will help, and maybe fix your problem... if he can't, he will rebuild the software from the ground up and give it to you. I've been watching and reading him for months. Be patient, he can help.

Oh, and, the artwork is downloaded from the Internet... so how fast you get to see it depends on how fast an Internet connection you have (no I do not want to know how super fast your Internet connection is), and how fast you local Intranet speed is, etc. Be patient brother.

I have read this thread through twice now (that is two (2) times), it is pilot error. I loved this comment though.... "...perhaps you guys could merge back..." <------ LOL!

Sometimes things happen different than planed.

No you are not alone and i also would like to have this feature.
But from your posts it was not clear to me what your problem is.
Your statement was that album art does not work, but it works on the playback page.

Browsing by album art would be cool, but it is not easy to implement at the moment.
There are many technical reasons for this. It is on our roadmap.

I think we all should cool down and use our time for better things.
