rlsten I have a NTFS SDD attached via USB to my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. I am using the Rune image for the 7" Official Pi LCD. I would like to access that drive from my Windows machine to transfer files directly to it while still attached to the Pi. From my Windows 7 and 8 machines, the Pi does not show up as a networked computer; however it does show up as a Media Device. The NTFS drive is mounted in the Pi as /mnt/MPD/USB/Portable Music. How can I get this mounted USB drive visible on my network? Forgive me, I know this question has been asked before, but I can't get any of the solutions to work. Thanks, Rod
hondagx35 Hi Rod, you have multiple options to get this working: * The manual way In Windows 8.x you need to start File Explorer and go to This PC, then expand the Computer tab on the ribbon and click or tap “Map network drive”. In Windows 7, start Windows Explorer and go to Computer. On the top toolbar you will see several buttons including one that says “Map network drive”. The “Map Network Drive” wizard is now displayed. First, select the letter you want to assign to the drive you are about to map. Then, you need to select the shared network folder you want it to point to. Enter the PIs ip address or if bonjour is installed on your windows pc use runeaudio \\192.168.0.35 or \\runeaudio Then click on the “Browse” button. You now should see the folders shared via samba. "music_store" is your friend. * or Change the samba configuration to match your network settings. Get access to the console and edit /etc/smb.conf #======================= Global Settings ======================= [global] workgroup = RUNENET server string = RuneAudio Player dns proxy = no log level = 0 syslog = 0 security = share guest account = root Set "workgroup =" so it fits your network. rlsten Frank, When I enter my Pi's IP (//192.168.1.21), Windows says it cannot access that address, even though I am able to SSH into the Pi using Putty. I also tried by editing the smb.conf file, but no good. I am using RuneOs: 0.3-beta RuneUI: 1.3-beta. Any ideas what could be wrong?
hondagx35 Hi Rod, Windows says it cannot access that address The syntax for the folder name is: \\ip-address not //ip-address I also tried by editing the smb.conf file, Did you restart your Pi after doing this? Frank
rlsten I'm sorry; the syntax for the ip-address was a typo: I did use the correct syntax and it didn't work on Windows 7. I went back and tried again on Windows 8 and I got it to work. There must be something screwy with my Windows 7 network settings. Thanks for your help.
