Bluetooth headset support, aptX

Postby muetzekoeln » 15 May 2015, 14:42

Hey there,

I am still waiting for rune to support the cubox-i. In the meantime I am to buy a wireless headset.

It would be great if rune would support bluetooth headset output. Apt-X (http://www.aptx.com) seems to be the codec
of choice and I am willing to pay for a license fee.

Please have a look if this could be included in rune.

Thanks
--- Christoph

Hi Christoph,
I took a quick look around the website and I couldn't find any information about how to integrate it. Seems a proprietary codec, so I wonder how we could take advantage of it in the context of an open source project. Can you provide some more specific informations about this?

Unfortunately I do not know much more than you.

What I found:

- BlueZ supports Apt-X since version 5.20, but does not include the codec (http://www.bluez.org/release-of-bluez-5-20/)
- Bluetooth USB dongles with CSR chip to support Apt-X (like the LogiLink BT0015 USB bluetooth V4.0 EDR Class1 Micro for example) and comes with a CD with CSR Harmony (see below) and supports Windows only
- CSR (http://www.csr.com) offers a software called CSR Harmony (http://www.csr.com/news/pr/release/180/en) for Windows (at least).

So maybe the license and/or the codec to use Apt-X is in the CSR chips???
