Is there anyway to control the RuneAudio RPi from outside the wifi network?

my goal is to turn on music while i'm on my way home via my phone.

You could modify the script to check the existence of a file which you place somewhere in the cloud. File exists: on, no file: off/pause. Do not open the file or copy it to your Pi, just check that it exists. Other types of solution will get very complex with regard to network security.
