help with samba?

Ok, so can someone provide a smb.conf and a tutorial on how to get samba to show my external HDD over the network? I'm not very good with samba and I'm struggling to get this working. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi, I've read this post, but it doesn't seem to help me. I've run all commands through SSH and yet I'm still not sure how to access my external HDD from my desktop. Do I have to configure samba? and do I have to map it as a network drive to do this?
