Install Tasker
Install RESTask for Tasker

1. add task. e.g:
   settings->type: GET
   settings->url: http://runeaudio.local/command/?cmd=previous
   
   OR
   settings->type: GET
   settings->url: http://runeaudio.local/command/
   parameters->add: name=cmd; value=previous
   
2. save task. Add link to the task on your android home screen.
3. enjoy.

Wouldn't it be easier to use MPDroid if you don't want to use the RuneUI?

MPDroid is just one of available options.
Also I'm using SSHTasker plugin.
e.g. for "Reload_UPnP_lib-button"(send to r-pi "sudo service minidlna force-reload"). etc.
With tasker you can create your own interface, or integrate Rune buttons to other app (e.g. CarDashboard).

Ive used Tasker since like version 1, its the BOMB. I dont need to use is for Rune, but thats pretty much the first app that goes on my devices.

Pent is a good developer.
