yes this is last resort as a Pacman upgrade fubar's lots of stuff in Rune :)

Tried this with everything except the upgrade option on Pacman since I already know it breaks Rune...it seemed to work and update stuff and no errors. Rebooted, and it does seem just slightly better but still getting clicks, pops and white noise as I go up in bitrate.

Next test will be with 0.2 and then I can burn another 0.3 and try with pacman -Syu

Try to install the latest 3.12.x kernel from official Archlinuxarm repository. Also use nrpacks=1.
It seems that your dac has a C-MEDIA usb controller similar to Shiit Modi's one, I think that in the latest kernels this controller only works with nrpacks=1.

Currently on:
uname -a
Linux runeaudio 3.12.19-2-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Thu May 22 15:35:00 UTC 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux
[root@runeaudio ~]#

Is there an easy method to update the kernel? still googling....

OK, so now for the life of me I cannot figure out how to enable the new kernel. Rebooting still gives me the same for uname.

It appears to have installed with no errors via pacman, but I seem to be missing something...your continued support is MOST appreciated while I get ready to smash my head into a wall :)

I even tried renaming the wolfson image and naming the new one the wolfson name but that doesnt appear to have worked either...

Testing Progress update: doesnt work any better on Volumio 1.41 (exact same issues) and didnt work on Rune 0.2 (pretty sure you guys realized this, based on the CMEDIA comments).

My last test last night was a fresh 0.3 flash and then I managed (I think) to get the 3.12.26-1 kernel on by renaming the original kernel and changing the new one to match the old one and rebooting. I get the correct info with uname now.

Tried the Schiit MODI tweak but still no go. Still getting the noise which is almost funny since it sounds like someone playing the Spoons to the music.

Ok so I think I have tried just about everything I can think of, now can only hope somewhere along the way it can be fixed. Otherwise, I wont be able to get what I want...which is the music as it is.

My only workaround atm is tweaking mpd.conf to only spit out 16bit format. The DAC sees the correct sampling rate and it does sound OK, but I hate losing those 8 bits :) and would like for it to work as it should. I will run a test over the weekend with my Mac which is supposed to work natively and I have PureMusic to pump out HD from it.

so in mpd.conf you can add below to force 16bit:
format "*:16:2"

So I have now looked into iecset and tried changing to pro which it did, but got me nothing. I tried messing with period_time in mpd.conf and that seemed to help a bit, but maybe that was wishful thinking...

So since I updated to the 3.12.26-1 kernel, I sort of figured the fiq stuff from the other post (my-solution-to-pops-and-clicks-t165.html) may not make sense, and then I poked around some more and found that in /boot/cmdline_rune.txt had the options for the fiq as is in the post, so I edited the file and voila we are almost 100% fixed... :) looking up

Almost because at 176 and 192 there is still seems to be a bit of warbling in the audio, or maybe its just my ears hearing crap I never heard before....

THANKS Guys for the help so far.
