Please bear with me as this is my first project using Arch/Linux, so I'm not sure if this is a bug or what?
I've been using HDMI out for audio while waiting for my IQaudIO DAC to show up, if the amp is turned off and I boot up the Pi I have no audio, reboot the Pi with the amp on and I do.
I did a bit of searching and came across this:

amixer cset numid=3 2

nano /boot/config.txt
Added
hdmi_drive=2
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_force_edid_audio=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
Saved, exited, rebooted. Issue fixed.
Just wondering if you could code it so you force HDMI out even if there's no device attached when you select it in the MPD "Audio output interface"?
