Why no stable release since 2014?

Postby jaygothard » 13 Mar 2021, 17:46

At this point Rune has reached a level of stability and functionality that rivals the other 2 major MPDs, so why no stable release? The casual computer user is going to see that the last stable release(not very stable by today's standards) was 7 years ago and move on. I feel lucky to be one of the people that knows where to find the latest version of Rune, but what about everyone else?

They have dropped the ball, and no reason has been given. The latest release is fan based.

Well, If those guys dropped the ball, I think they should also drop the Website administrator logins to someone willing to update the site in order to show the last Rune version on the official download page.

P.S. - Thanks a lot Rern for your great works on your version. It's very appreciated !

Well, someone is paying for the domain you know.. and they can do whatever they want to..
It is still an attraction for audio lovers and without it, users like rern (and many other "fans") wouldn't have the opportunity to contribute as they do.

Need to give the guys a break, it'll come when ready, v2 is a total rewrite and when it was hinted of an alpha release, the Pi4 then got released and we're in the mist of a global economic pandemic.

Well they will have to do a lot of work, especially compared to rern's release. Also, the last version from the dev team was years ago, well before the pandemic started. Sorry, but I doubt we will see another release from the dev team, call me a pessimist, or a realist.

In the mean time a new RuneAudio release comes out, people can give rAudio a try, as suggested in this post : runeaudio-r-e6-t7141.html
It supports all Rpi's, and BeagleBone Black.

Hope this helps new comers ...

Maybe good things come to those who wait?
