pacman updates

Postby cmh714 » 08 Sep 2014, 16:56

FYI in the last few days a new kernel came out and updating broke my wireless....I have been testing which package specifically broke it and so far it looks like this one did it:
linux-raspberrypi-3.12.26-2

I am going to test some more and will repost....

Ok, so that was the package breaking my Wifi. I used this to update everything but that package:
pacman -Syu --ignore linux-raspberrypi

YMMV, always take a backup before you try updating.....

updates and/or installing other normal arch packages have also broken my system a couple of times. Sad (and abnormal) not to be able to keep a system up to date, though there are probably reasons :)

I only had the problem on 0.2 with 0.3 all my updating has worked until this past one. But as I mentioned YMMV.

I am going to keep updating this thread....Latest kernel available: 3.12.28-1

Again, my first test was to update without taking the kernel using: pacman -Syu --ignore linux-raspberrypi

That worked fine and Rune is still working as expected.

I will update the kernel later today and report back.

Also as a note, I noticed a story this morning on one of the Security sites I watch and they mentioned a security update to nginx (https://lists.debian.org/debian-securit ... 00217.html?) not sure thats filtered down yet.....

While the update worked and Rune is working, the Chrome tab has the spinner going and doesnt stop and the Chrome status bar says "waiting for cache"......

So I finally had time to look into this some more....with a fresh flash of a backup I had already running 3.12.26-1 I ran pacman -Syu and let it go and things broke in the UI. I worked it out to the ffmpeg package (ffmpeg-1:2.4.1-1). the version I have on mine is ffmpeg 1:2.3.3-1 and that works.

so pacman -Syu --ignore ffmpeg worked for me.

YMMV HTH :)
