Odd dhcp problem

Postby sandmanx » 22 Jan 2016, 00:02

I just installed 0.3-beta on a b+ raspberry pi. I'm using the built in hardware network interface and dhcp was working fine until I moved it to a different network drop. Now it won't pull a dhcp address at all unless I log into the console and run dhcpcd.

The web interface network section reports ETH0 is down even after I've pulled the address manually. Any ideas on why this is happening? The same cable works fine with dhcp on a Windows 8.1 machine and it pulls an address manually.

I never did figure out why dhcp wouldn't work right without running dhcpcd manually. I updated to a nightly build a few times without any change. I had to reload the OS today due to a power outage corrupting something on sdcard for my pi and had the same problem with a static IP as well.

I finally figured out that netctl file in /etc/netctl/ wanted the address setup like this:

Code: Select all
Address='192.168.178.2/24'

instead of

Code: Select all
Address='192.168.178.2/255.255.255.0'

Once I changed this setting it assigns the static IP on bootup.

And I think I might have finally figured it out. It stopped assigning the IP again after a reboot. I finally tried enabling the interface and that has worked after 20 restarts to test it.

Code: Select all
netctl enable eth0

I do not like Arch Linux, what a mess compared to Debian. Hopefully this fixes my issue and maybe helps someone in the future.
