Until yesterday, I was assuming that the USB connection between the Odroid and the DAC was responsible of clicks and pops (and I hadn't be able to connect Odroid i2s pins with my dac via RJ45). With Archphile, I use too USB connection so I assume that's not the problem.

hondagx35 wrote:Did you try to play with the mpd settings (buffer size / buffer before play / sound profiles)?

I tried many differents sizes for the two buffer (Archphile use the same default buffers as Runeaudio). I also tried Orion (+V2) profile. I will try the others.

hondagx35 wrote:Where is your music stored (NAS, cifs or nfs)?
If the music is on a network share, do you connect via ethernet or wifi?

My music library is stored on USB harddrive and connected to the odroid via USB HUB.

I also tried a linear PSU for the Odroid and a Power Adapter (5V 2000mA) for the HUB. To prevent interferences (?), I use now a tecknet powerbank for both odroid and USB Harddrive+Hub.

PS. The only difference between my experience with Runeaudio and ARchphile was changing the µsdcard.

PS2. Clicks and pops appears only on 24/192 Flac files, not on DSD 128 or 256.

Hi,

Will difference music source create pops and clicks at hi-res music due to speed of file transmission?
Where is the song stored? NAS or USB storage?

Best Regards
Michael

Hi Michael,

As I said above, all my music is stored on USB hard drive, a 2To WD My passeport ultra.

Well...

- Pacman etc. : OK
- I tried to load my music library but nothing appears under "Library" tab in RuneUI even if there is an (1) behind USB STORAGE button.
- I went to MPD menu, safely disconnected my USB Hard drive, then reconnected : usb harddrive is reconize as /dev/sda1 USB/DD (size: 1.9TB, 30% in use)
- I tried "Rebuild MPD Library" : OK
- But still nothing under USB STORAGE (1) button
- Tried ssh :
[root@runeaudio ~]# mpd -V
mpd: error while loading shared libraries: libnfs.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Hi jazzaj,

at the moment i have no access to my ODROID so i'm unable to test.

You can try to update lbnfs.
Code: Select all
pacman -Sy libnfs

Hi,

I find that if ODROID cannot get enough power,
It will not mount all content of source.

I drive it with 10000mAH battery, only few folder/song can be mount.
When I drive it with 5V2A LPS, nothing wrong and mount all folder.

With RP3, no such case.

@Frank

Now I retry on fresh install.

- Pacman etc. : OK
- USB Hard drive mounted as /dev/sda1
- Still no USB Drive under USB STORAGE (1) button
- Pacman -Sy libnfs : OK
- Still nothing under USB STORAGE (1) button
- Try to manually edit mpd.conf.pacnews (the one generated after mpd update) with original informations (audio_output {Amanero...), save as mpd.conf
- Under RuneUI mpd menu, I have a warning about mpd.conf that hab been manually edit etc.
- Still nothing under USB STORAGE (1) button
- Reset my mpd.conf and generate a new one, make the correct changes and save
- Still nothing under USB STORAGE (1) button, tried access to Dirble without success
- Tried ssh :
[root@runeaudio ~]# mpd -V
mpd: error while loading shared libraries: libnfs.so.0 (previously .8): cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

EDIT : If I ssh [root@runeaudio]# find, I can see all my music files under /mnt/MPD/USB/...

Hi Jazzaj,

I have a C1 connected to a Master 7 and using USB connection between those two and also USB connection to a HDD or SSD (no hub involved) I never have problems playing 24/192 with a buffer setting of 512 k and 30 %. Both the C1 and the SSD are powered via an Anker powerbank. My guess is that the usb hub might be the problem or your buffer settings. Good luck!

Salut Uwe,

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem. Listening the same music (24-192 FLAC) through Archphile give me no pops and clicks and through Runeaudio give me some, so...
What I don't understand is why Archphile and Runeaudio that are almost same software solutions give different result in the exact same hardware configuration.
For the hardware aspects, I tried PSU, Tecknet powerbank, different hubs, different USB wire, different µcard...

I think, but you can disagree, that it's not the best idea to have more than ONE usb plugged in the Odroid (or any plugcomputer) for the low cost USB controller has to manage IRQs, the flow of the data from the files on the USB hard drive and simultaneously the flow send to the USB DAC.

I run Archlinux for years on several Dockstar/Goflex Net: in my situation the best sound is achieved when there is nothing plugged on the USB ports, except the USB DAC/Transport. Boot system (/) and audio files are accessible via NFS.
