Cheap SD card -causing all sorts of problem!

Postby VW Darren » 24 Jan 2017, 21:43

This card had always felt a little flimsy. Yes it isn't a class 10 but at least it has a make of sorts :) Well ok it has a sticker!
Turns out all isn't as it seems. A small crack in it casing and a chance i flexed it slightly whilst handling my pi resulted in the pi rebooting -surely all my problems with my RuneAudio project wasn't down to a dodgy card!?

Yes it is actually a micro sd card inside a full size sd card case!
Are they all made this way now?

Looking at google it seems this isn't the only problem SD Cards have with an ever increasing number of fake cards being sold with lower than advertised capacity. Having tried Volumio on and off over the years and not really having much success with it I thought I'd try RuneAudio - glad I didn't give up as easily. Last ebay card I buy!

A good source of cheap genuine cards i have found is Argos.

Hope this helps someone else who maybe having trouble with a project.

ONLY give feedback, AFTER carefully testing stuff you purchase on eBay !
use well known memory card test software to prove ok or not.
h2testw
is the best !!
when you find stuff that is too slow, or wrong capacity, remember to give negative feedback.
