can't get my new wifi dongle working

Postby jazzaj » 01 Apr 2016, 16:30

Hi all,

My Edimax dongle is dead... RIP

I wanted to try another dongle that I have, a TP-LINK Archer T2U. But Runeaudio (ODROID C1+, runeaudio 0.3-alpha build 20140709, runeUI 1.3alpha) didn't recongnize it while I pluged it.

On the TP-link website, there is a linux driver for this dongle (https://github.com/Myria-de/mt7610u_wif ... o_20130916) and a package exists in AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mt7610u_wifi_sta/)

So I ssh-ed my odroid, did a pacman -Sy and tried a pacman -S mt7610u_wifi_sta but got "error: target not found: mt7610u_wifi_sta"

I played with archlinux a longtime ago and didn't remember how to install a package from an archive, I don't want to brake my installation to...

Could someone help me to install this dongle (it seems possible since there is a driver) ? Thanks.

Ok. A bit brainstorm later...

I have installed 'packer' via pacman and did :

Code: Select all
[root@runeaudio ~]# packer -S mt7610u_wifi_sta

Aur Targets    (1): mt7610u_wifi_sta

Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
Edit mt7610u_wifi_sta PKGBUILD with $EDITOR? [Y/n] n
Edit depmod.install with $EDITOR? [Y/n] n
makepkg: invalid option '--asroot'
The build failed.
[root@runeaudio ~]#

Hi,

package building can not be done ass rott on newer arch linux systems.

You have to create a new user for this.
Code: Select all
useradd frank
passwd frank

Now login with your newly created user and try again.
You have to make shure that you have write access to the folder in use.

Hi, did you get this working?

I have the same dongle and I tried packer -S mt7610U_wifi_sta.
This results in an error: /lib/modules/3.12.26-1-ARCH/build does not exist.

I tried installing abs and copying the build files to a build folder in my home dir wich I symlinked to the modules folder.
But that results in a: No rule to make target.

While these are popular dongles in my country, it would help more people if we can get a working procedure to install it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi kopke,

To get the best possible support, please specify your hardware and RuneAudio version.

I am not there yet, but I got a step further:
Started with a new image, then installed (as root) packer and some tools out the base-devel (binutils,make,gcc,fakeroot,pkg-config,sudo).
As a normal user started packer and got the missing build folder error.
By the packer also installed the headers.
I made a symlink: ln -s /usr/lib/modules/4.4.9-1-ARCH/build /lib/modules/3.12.26-1-ARCH/build.
Started packer again it started to build. It took a while, next morning I found almost completely compiled but with an error on the mt7650u_sta.ko object.

Hey guys, there must some arch specialist out there who can tell us what the best way of compiling this module in runeaudio is?
