Just out of interest, I am now using the following BBC URLs, since they switched over this week:

http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... io4fm_mf_p
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... extra_mf_p
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... music_mf_p

Hope this is of use to others.

Thanks for this Mark, I was wondering where they had gone. Do you know what the URL for BBCRadio3 is?

Just playing around (copying the URLs into the Firefox address bar and changing the station name), it looks like this works:
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... adio3_mf_p

The other stations seem to follow the same pattern.

There's also the LW version for R4:
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... io4lw_mf_p

The BBC have (very) recently changed their streams. The ones listed above should be considered legacy streams and the BBC intend to switch them off within a year. There's a blog post here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entries/977a1954-658f-4fb2-a23c-71680c49882f

Higher quality streams are available using HLS up to 320kbps. The BBC have not been forthcoming with those streams but over on the squeezebox forums they have posted some and I've been able to work out the others. The 320kbps feed of the BBC stations are distinguished by sbr_high in the address. You need to remove the sbr_ to change the feed to 128kbps. All the nationals follow a similar naming convention.

http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... o_one.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... 1xtra.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... o_two.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... three.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... ourfm.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... ourlw.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... extra.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... _live.m3u8
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... music.m3u8

Whilst all these can be copied into VLC and work fine at 320kbps (if you're in the UK) they don't work in Rune Audio. The version of MPD that Rune Audio 0.3 uses doesn't support m3u8. However, even if it did I don't know if it could use the streams and I don't know enough about MPD to get it working myself if it didn't do it natively.

So, is this a feature request we sould put to the Rune developers or is it MPD dependent and out of their hands?

I think maybe it should be something we put to the developers. I've continued to read about the squeezebox fix and the proof of concept plugin that has been put together. It seems that the plugin uses ffmpeg to transcode the new HLS BBC streams to FLAC. Therefore it doesn't seem like it would be an MPD issue at all as I first thought. Unfortunately the original thread has grown unwieldy as it grew out of a different discussion but the user BPA comes in with a solution here. There's some more discussion over the next few pages but after that it tends to be other users asking how to do it over and over. A number of them are using Pi's though so there's every reason to believe that getting the various streams to work is possible.

Probably the m3u8 support has been disabled in the PKGBUILD:
https://github.com/RuneAudio/RuneOS/blo ... BUILD.0.19
so you can experiment recompiling it with the proper support and test if it works.

Btw, the 0.4 release will include the latest version of MPD - 0.19.9 or 0.18.23, depending on the sound quality (we'll include both packages anyway).
