[DONE] Access files via network share?

Postby TheNewGuy » 20 Feb 2015, 20:13

Hi folks,

I'm new here and new to runeaudio as well. Gotta say, I love it so far - great software!

I got one question, though. I plugged a USB-Harddisk with my music into my Raspberry running runeaudio, and I used to be able to access those files on my Windows 7 PC just typing \\192.168.x.x into my explorer .

Since I installed Windows anew, I can't access my Raspberry's files via Explorer. I did not change any network settings.
What kind of file sharing is running in the background of rune and how can I configure it? Apparently it's not samba, is it?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Raphael

EDIT: Well, I found out what was wrong. I used a different power supply which didn't power the Pi enough, apparently. With a stronger 2A adapter it works just fine!

Hi,

I'm not usually a windows person but while configuring a wondows machine to access the rune file system, i couldn't connect with
Code: Select all
\\runeaudio.local\music_store\

or
Code: Select all
\\runeaudio\music_store\

But I could connect with
Code: Select all
\\192.168.1.xxx\music_store\

Why is that ?

Hi there,

it's because xyz.local is the apple bonjour protocol. It allows a PC to find the IP of another PC. Now your Windows PC doesn't have the bonjour service installed by default.

Your solution would be either install
1. Bonjour SDK from Apple https://developer.apple.com/bonjour/index.html but you'll need an Apple Developer Account for that
2. install ITunes for windows and it comes with bonjour

BTW the Bonjour in Linux is called avahi

Last time I tried, installing this did the trick:
Bonjour Print Services for Windows
Stay away from iTunes, it's the devil :D

True Bonjour Print Service works also.

And just as another remark. Apple is great for hardware, but some software they do is just horrible. ITunes is the best example for this, I absolutely agree with you.
- No consistency whatsoever within the program
- No control over YOUR OWN music library.

Another solution would be to finally quit Windows and use a real OS.

Cheers
