WiFi on RP2/RP3 Unfriendly Router

Postby Perran » 30 Dec 2017, 04:40

A bit confused and frustrated !

Background :
------------------
I have got one RP2 with a HiFiBerry
DAC+ and one RP3 with a HiFiBerry Digi+.
They booth operated flawlessly in my old home.
In my new home, none of them gets network connection.
I am not allowed to access the ISP router, locked out.
(I am in Manila !)

I have worked for almost 4 full days with this problem with no progress at all.
The RPs are not visible on the network (Advanced IP Scanner, NMAP and similar).

What I did :
I did not manage to SSH, because I have no IP to RP !
I have downloaded the latest distro, reprogrammed the SD memory.
I even tried to set up a separate network with an unused D-LINK router, no progress (setting up an AP with WiFi).
When I connect the RP HDMI output to a TV, I can see the RPs are booting.
First the coloured square, then the RuneAudio login screen.
After a timeout, the RuneAudio UI is displayed.
I can not manage the UI using an old Microsoft USB mouse (I have 2 of them).
Only occassionaly I can success to access a funtion.

I hope I can solve my problem by getting a proper mouse.
Considering buying a combo with keyboard using WiFi or Blutooth via a dongle.
If I can manage the UI, I can set the Internet to WiFi and enter SSID and Key
for my home network, and I am hopefully done !
There are a LOT of units here connected to the WiFi, cellphones, laptops and TV,
so there should not be a problem with the WiFi network.

May be there is something I have foreseen ?
Thanks a lot

Hi Perran,

I can not manage the UI using an old Microsoft USB mouse (I have 2 of them).

This has nothing to do with your mouse, there is no cursor displayed on the HDMI port by default.
The output of this port is optimized for the original 7" touch TFT.

In my new home, none of them gets network connection.

Via Ethernet cable?

You can try my latest image it opens an AccessPoint by default (see link).

Hi Perran,
Try this image: runeaudio-0-4-beta-for-raspberry-pi2-3-t4434.html#p19960 or this one: runeaudio-0-3-beta-for-raspberry-pi-t502-520.html#p23625 They have a built in WiFi Access Point. This means that you van connect directly to Rune from a PC or smartphone. When you are connected you can sort out your WiFi Router connection problems.
Use the Pi B3 first, this has built-in WiFi which works with the Access Point functionality. Note: some WiFi dongles will not work with the Access Point function. When this is working you can transfer the Micro-SD card to your Pi 2B and it should come to life. You can then configure your second Micro-SD card on the Pi 3B.

To use the Access Point:
SISID = RuneAudioAP
Passphrase = RuneAudio
UI connect URL (from browser): 192.168.5.1
In the first image you can switch off the Access Point via the network configuration screen. In the second image login via SSH and execute the command:
Code: Select all
redis-cli hset AccessPoint enabled 0

Thanks a lot Frank !
Works like a charm, and very useful for people in my situation !
Remains to find out why my Samsung S7 can not open up the GUI.
You made my New Years Eve, I can now play on my HighEnd all digital sound system (Lyngdorf).
Thanks a lot !
