NAD d3020 + Raspberry Pi (B)

Postby uppsalanet » 25 May 2016, 09:28

I’m trying to understand how this works and why it don't works.
I installed runeaudio connected to NAD d3020 via usb. In the runeaudio configuration I select USB as "Audio output interface". It works like a charm, I can play various of format.
But trying to play "DSF - DSD64 - Original Pure DSD recording and mix at 1-bit, 2.8MHz sampling rate (206.6MB)" it plays 1 second and then cut; plays another second and then cut . . .

What I understand NAD d3020 have native DAC support via USB so Raspberry should not do anything with the data just pass it on into the NAD d3020.

Is there anything I’ve missed? I can play DFS in lower format.

Cheers

Hi Fredrik,

NAD d3020 + Raspberry Pi (B)

So you have a Pi1 (first model)?

If so, the image for that device is not capable of playing native DSD.

If not, the new image for RP2/3 can play native DSD to USB DACs.
For this to work the MPD configuration has to be tweaked by hand.
This will change soon with the next image.

Native DSD does not work with all DACs see https://github.com/lintweaker/xmos-native-dsd

The NAD accepts PCM up to 96/24; you cannot stream FLAC or other lossless formats (or DSD) to it directly.

Hi rikardo1979,

Any chance we can get DSD support for Sabre ES9023 DAC please?

Did you read the linked documentation?

The "Sabre ES9023" is a DAC and not a XMOS based USB interface.
