USB Mount Western Digital "My Passport" not possible

Postby Perran » 06 Jan 2018, 12:37

Hello Music Lovers !

I have tried to install a SSD USB disk of make Western Digital,
"My Passport", 512 Gb.
SSD is obviously a good candidate for RuneAudio, silent
and low power consuption compared to traditional HDs.
This family od SSDs has a Virtual CD Drive configured, in which Sw
for access Control etc is stored.
The Sw might be removed, but not the VCD, it is configured in the SSD firmware.
All as per WDs saying.
In Windows, the VCD has the label E: and the disk itself has label F:
At Automount in Runeaudio, the VCD is mounted as a CD (/sda2).
When I add another mount, the meny for NAS appears, which I assume
is applicable for networked devices only.
It seems like the VCD "hides" the SSD to be mounted.
I have tried to find a way to swap the drive letters between VCD and disk, but no success.

I have got a traditional HD, WD Elements, 2 Tb, that mounts with no problems (does not have a VCD).
Btw, when attempting the SSD mount, I already have a 16 Gb USB stick properly mounted.

Any ideas for "work around" ?

Hi ,

the VCD can be disabled, so it doesn't appear.
This can be done on Windows or if you like on your Pi.
https://www.zeitgeist.se/2017/09/01/linux-way-to-disable-the-virtual-cd-on-wd-disks/
SDPARM installation goes like this:
Code: Select all
pacman -Sy sdparm

Frank

- Get access to the console:
Use SSH from your PC
If you are not familiar with SSH read this for Windows or this for Linux/MacOS
The default login for RuneAudio is "root" with the password "rune" (without quotes).

- Use sftp to access files on Rune Audio:
Get WinSCP from here and install it.
When it opens setup the following:
- Session
File Protocol: SCP
Host name: The IP address of you Raspberry Pi
User name: root
Password: rune

That's it, connect and you can transfer files just by dragging and dropping.
