USB disk not always mounted

Postby giovilux » 21 Sep 2017, 15:48

Hi,

I'm experiencing strange behaviours with an external USB attached disk.
1. powering on the rpi with the disk attached in library there is a blank page
2.disconnect and re-connect the disk to the usb library now shows that there is an usb source
3.once I can see the usb source I can sometime see only one of the 2 directories in the disk

Thanks

Hi giovilux,

Do you have an extra power supply for your USB-disk (I assume it is a USB disk and not a memory stick)? A powered hub normally required to give it enough power to operate.

You may just have enough power to get it working if the USB power supply is set to the maximum (1.2A , standard is 0.6A). In your config.txt file alter the line
Code: Select all
max_usb_current=0
to (or if the line is missing missing, just add)
Code: Select all
max_usb_current=1

For a reliable set-up the powered hub is advised.

Thanks Janui,
the disk has it's own power supplier.
I've done some more tests and I suspect the problem is in the sd card. I've flashed it several times without results.
I've flashed a brand new card and this works in both rpi that I have. I will now get a new cart and try again.

I think the problem is in how the sd card has been flashed.
I reflashed the card removing all partitions from linux, then I initialised it in widows disk utility and eventually fleshed the disk image with rufus.
It works now (cross the fingers).
