Spotify playing music faster than normal !

Postby zool2611 » 15 May 2016, 21:58

Hi all, :)

First, congratulation for this great software! ;)

Here is my problem :

When I'm using spotify on RuneAudio 0.4 (build:beta-20160313), the music is playing faster than normal, it's like using an old
vinyl 33 rpm switching to 45 rpm. Sound strange !

Does anybody have the same issue?

Well this is interesting... fast (not slow).... so WiFi? Ethernet cable? Raspberry P1, Pi2, P3? Any additional HAT (DIGI or DAC)? USB out to an external DAC? Did you drink a lot of coffee (or booze) before your listening test? Where drugs involved?

Ahahah! No drugs involved! Neither coffee or vitamins or anything else. ;)

Yes fast, that's mean not slow, indeed. :D

By the way, it's playing mp3 on my local HDD perfectly.

- I'm using a PI-3 only on Wi-Fi, a self powered HDD is plugged as well as a (so called) DAC, powered only by usb cable : Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro.
:D

You can download a record of what I hear when I use Spotify here : https://we.tl/hp2b0L0m11

I downloaded this file....
2016-05-16_08'07'22'.mp3

It's sound OK to me, not slow... but as I have never heard that song before I have no frame of reference. It did sound very 'tinny'....the high (treble) were accentuated, with little to no lows (bass). This could've been caused by the recording device used. As for the speed... it seem to me that it was playing at the correct speed.

Edit: If it only happens with Spotify, then it could be a networking issue. Can you try playing Spotify using the Ethernet cable, not WiFi? And get back to me about how that sounds...

Thank you for your answer,
What kind of music would you like to hear, so you can notice a difference?

I will try the ethernet option as soon as i can.

Ok,

Find out the reason why....

It's coming from my DAC, I've tried with and without, the sound comes out normally with the analog output of the Raspberry.

Is there any possibilities to fix that (probably) driver issue?

Which DAC? Brand, model, etc....

Hi zool2611,

you have a simple sample rate issue (44.1/48).
Your DAC is not able to play the needed sample rate.

You can try to modify "/etc/spop/spopd.conf " by adding:
Code: Select all
# Output name. Common values: default (for alsa, coreaudio, pulseaudio), hw:0
# (alsa), /dev/dsp (oss), etc. This can also be left empty to use the default
# value of the device driver. Can also be a file name: output.ogg, etc. See `man
# soxformat' for details.
output_name = plughw:x.x

You have to find the right numbers for x.x (see your debug data)

Which DAC? Brand, model, etc....

Yes, we need to know this.
