shutdown screen display

Postby matlo74 » 16 Apr 2016, 13:35

Hi,

I use a PI3 with the 7" official display. I intend to let the PI on. what I would do is to be able to switch off the display. Indeed, when I shutdown uneaudio, display is still on and some bad character appears (kind of white line quite ugly).

Is there a possibility with rune audio to switch off the display and automatize it ?

thanks

This could be possible;
to get the pi to do all the shutdown tasks, except the end task of halting the pi.
You could easily tweak the system to display a different screen once the run-state has changed, but once the system halts it'd stop displaying the picture. No big deal if you're using hard power on/off

You can set the screensaver to eg. 5 minutes in /root/.xinitc. Display blanks after this time and a touch wakes it up. Works fine.

Code: Select all
# xset -dpms &
xset dpms 0 0 300 &
  • HiFi 1: Alix/voyage-mpd, MusicalFidelity M1 DAC (RP2/HifiBerry Digi+), Accuphase DP-67, Accuphase E-212, Infinity Kappa 8.2i
  • HiFi 2: RP2/7" Touchscreen/IQaudIO Pi-DAC+, Philips Fidelio X1

hi thanks for your answers.

when you mentionned to activate power management
# xset -dpms &
xset dpms 0 0 300 &

does it mean that screensaver has to be set to on (xset s on) ? Or is it completely different ?

My question was more related to create a kind of automatism directly in Rune audio (but unfortunately no competencies yet to do that)

Hi Mat,

matlo74 wrote:Indeed, when I shutdown uneaudio, display is still on and some bad character appears (kind of white line quite ugly).

There is an issue with DPMS on reboot or poweroff.
I try to fix this but did not find the problem.

what I would do is to be able to switch off the display.

Try to update to latest git version.
Code: Select all
cd /srv/http/
git stash
git pull

You will get a new menu entry (DISPLAY OFF) on your 7" display in MENU->Turn off.

What is the issue with DPMS? I use it all the time with the official 7" display. My display board is Rev 1.1 - maybe problems exist with the initial V1.0.

Are you running the latest RP2/RP3 image?
I'm asking because since i made this i an issue with DPMS.
On shutdown or reboot the display turns off (xset dpms force off) but comes back on.
The display turns black and after a few seconds you can see the login prompt.

It seems that the os turns the screen back on during reboot / shutdown.

The first RP2 image did not have this issue.

Hi Frank

It worked. Nevertheless, the display switches off after 15mn. I checked in /root/.xinitrc and SC is like this :
xset -dpms &
xset s off &

I don't know why the screen switches off then.

Hi Frank,
isn't that normal behavior? xset dpms only has influence to the Xserver, which is stopped during shutdown/reboot. So you see the console login for a moment until it powers off. I use release version 0.4 (build: beta-20160313) with latest git.
