Screensaver To Turn Off Display

Postby R101 » 13 Sep 2017, 10:03

I have added a 7" touchcreen to my Pi3 running Ver. 0.4b build 20170229. At present, the screensaver is a display of outlines and spinning symbols.

Would it be possible to have the screensaver turn the display off? (Same function as in the "Turn Off" menu.)

I see that I am not the only user who has a local display but uses a remote interface for control, so it would be useful if the screensaver could be invoked by lack of display activity rather than lack of screen touches, if that is possible.

Hi,

screensaver could be invoked by lack of display activity rather than lack of screen touches, if that is possible.

I like the idea, please specify the term " lack of display activity " more detailed.

No music playing ?
Frank, do you if a screensaver that can trigger scripts exists ? I would like to pilot some relays to switch the backlight.

I'd really like this, too.
The one thing that prevents me from abandoning Volumio and go all-in on Rune, is the lack of a screensaver for touchdisplays.
Volumio has this feature, even though it's part of the touchscreen plug-in, the screen goes black after a couple of minutes.

EDIT: I found a way to accomplish this:
# nano /root/.xinitrc
- - - - -
# turn off display power management
#xset -dpms &
-> Disabled this by commenting out.

# turn off screensaver
#xset s off &
xset s on &
-> Changes this to "on"
- - - - -
