OK, I thought I would give you an update.

The dreaded 404 issue has returned. Sometimes it will take 10 power off/on events before it will work and sometimes none, it will boot straight into RA. At other times It might happen once and not again.

I removed the wireless connection, but that made no difference at all.

Anyhow, Frank I hope you had a great Xmas and a Happy New Year!! :)

I used to get this error occasionally. Since I updated the Kernel (to stop channel switching on the DAC+ Pro), this has not happened since. Maybe a coincidence, but worth noting.

I have also experienced odd WiFi drop outs and performance issues (occasional stuttering and 1 second silences). Even though my Pi is about 3 meters from my router, with no walls in between, signal strength is only 50%. The other day I tried out Volumio (just to see if it suffered from the same issue - it didn't). Having said that, Volumio suffers from plenty of other issues that do not make it a viable alternative (in particular, the implementation of the local browser is really clumsy and clunky), so kudos to the Runeaudio team for a top product.

I've got no good fix yet for the WiFi issues.

Hi scot-e-dog,

have you already tried to play with the buffer settings on Menu->MPD?

Frank,

Thanks - I've given it a go and it does seem a better. I still get the occasional stutter; however, I don't think these are related to the wifi.

I noticed the other day when SSHing into the RPI that I got a stutter on the laptop at exactly the same time as one on the RPi. I am now wondering whether I have power spikes (might also explain why I have killed more central heating system timers over the last 10 years than I care to remember!!!).

I will investigate further.

Could you give me some hints/tips on updating the Kernel please and note that my Linux skills are limited. I can find my way to the SSH console but that's about the limit of my skills ...

Hi Andy

If you're comfortable ssh'ing to a command prompt on your pi, once there issue the following:

Code: Select all
pacman -Sy --force raspberrypi-firmware raspberrypi-bootloader linux-raspberrypi

Once the process is finished, reboot.

Thanks Yatsushiro.

I tried that command, but when it got to the installation phase there were errors. I closed PuTTY and then logged back into Rune and it immediately started updating. I went out to the kitchen to physically turn off the RPi, but it had already started shutting itself down.

When the RPi rebooted I got yet another 404 error

So it would seem that it did not make any difference.

Anyhow, I have decided to rewrite the MicroSD Card to see if that makes any difference, fingers crossed it will work. I just hate having to pull it out of it's case in order to change cards etc.

Thanks again for the help though.

Hi ,

I tried that command, but when it got to the installation phase there were errors.

I think you run out of memory on your sd card.

You have to resize your sd card first.

That may have been the issue Frank, I never expanded the card at all.

In any case, I ended up rewriting the card and boy am I glad I did.

Not only has it seemed to fix the 404 issue (no more cases so far at least), but I've gained a massive speed increase when adding the network shares/files and updating of said shares/files.

I am using a U3 class SD card, but previously, it ran at much the same speed as a class 10 card, or at least it seemed that way.

I'm not sure why it runs so much better now, than the original writing of the card, but it sure is sweet now. :D
