What browser on which system are you using to access runeaudio.local?

I am using Firefox 62 on Linux, have also tried with Chromium. Both can access runeaudio.local on another Pi using 0.4-beta, just not using 0.5-beta. The avahi-daemon is running.

I installed the 0.5-beta version on a rpi3b+hifiberry digi pro and works fine. Also i control the rune audio from my laptop with cantata, no problem here too. Thank you very much!

Hi jlynton,

Thanks again Janui, but none of those work.
It is possible that 'lease time' on your router is set to a relatively long time. This could cause it to remember the link between the IP address of your v0.4b Rune and 'runeaudio.local' for longer than you would expect. 'runeaudio.local' could therefore point to the wrong IP address.
The easiest way to test this is to start v0.5b, access it via it's IP address and change its hostname in the Settings UI. Then try to access it via 'http://your-new-name.local'.
This problem is really puzzling us, hope this helps.

First : I am very pleased to see that Rune isn't dead.
I have testen both images.
What did I do?
P1:
Dac: HifiBerry
Play music, then from the menu -->Reboot.
Loginpromt after 55 sec.
Music starts to play after 2minutes and 35 sec.

Pi2
Dac:HifiBerry+
Play music, then from the menu -->Reboot.
Loginpromt not tested.
Music starts to play after 2minutes and 35 sec.
I also had to set the Digital Volme Sliders to 100%. = <ip pi>:8080

So pi1 and pi2 both play after 2 minutes and 25 sec.

All options are OFF or disabled except:
Auto rebuild = on
Statefile = enabled
Autoplay = On
USB Automount = On

The 0.4b image reboots and plays in 35 seconds on the Pi2.
So, at the moment, I still prefer 0.4b
Good luck with your update though, glad to see some movement on the software

Hi wim-nl,
Thanks for trying 0.5 and posting your feedback.
Yes, I recognise these timings. There is an update available which improves these start-up and reboot times, a git pull is required (see the first post in the tread for instructions). It’s still nowhere near as fast as 0.4, but still a significant improvement.
The reason for this is that certain jobs crash if time is changed after they start, so Rune currently waits for time to be corrected before starting these jobs.

I confirm that start up time is longer than 0.4, but i found out that sound quality is better, so this is not a big deal for me.

Normally use Volumio, but just noticed a new version at last. So far these have been my observations .vs volumio.

Pros:

-The playback screen is better. As the track time elapses it does so smoothly instead of ticking off seconds like Volumio. The volume control has a spot to grab onto and holding the volume up and volume down buttons accurately and smoothly moves the volume up and down.

-Good sound quality. Didn't really like the sound quality of 0.4 .vs 0.3. Seems to be back to "normal" and without random clicks and other anomalies.

-Displays info in the GUI like uptime and % of space used on USB drive.

Cons:

-Not able to add a network share. Used identical settings that are working in Volumio and getting nada.

-Not able to access the Rune web interface using anything other than the IP address.

-Not able to access the web UI at all using my phone connected to the hotspot. Stays of the spinning arrow "connecting" screen forever.

-No album art shown while browsing music library. No option and grid view.

-Overall instability. UI randomly stops responding at times.

Glad the project isn't dead, but some serious catch up is needed to match the functionality and overall stability of current versions of Volumio. Maybe start by grabbing a copy and give it an honest evaluation.

Hi thisisjay,

Thanks for taking the time to try 0.5b and post your findings.

Looking at your cons, we cannot reproduce your problems concerning connecting to rune (except via IP address), nor can we reproduce your network share issue. I would be very interested in any details which you could provide concerning these points. Also any details concerning UI instability are very welcome.

Album art in the music library is not a feature, so no surprise here.
