Raspberry PI 3 with HDMI 5" screen

Postby zakkW » 29 Apr 2016, 18:35

Hello,
I would like to have the RuneAudio UI displayed on a HDMI screen 5" connected to my RPi 3... When connecting the screen, the HDMI display works but already stops on the Rune login/pwd... The first time I connected my RPi to the HDMI screen TV, it seems to me having Rune UI or display mode running without entering any login/pwd... Anyway, even after entering login/pwd, the system logs on but I finished into the console mode... Is there anybody here who succeeds to have his TFT screen displaying Rune UI? By reading some forum entries, I'm wondering now if such an operation is feasible, unless to add a web browser locally into Rune installation and to start with the RuneAudio local adress... The problem is I'm not totally fluent in ArchLinux console commands and I do not know if finally this can be done even by a Linux expert... Could you please help me at least to know if such a configuration can be achieved and even better if I could get some clues to start...
Thanks a lot!

Hi zakkW,

the RP2/Rp3 image has exactly what you want as built in feature.

- matchbox-window-manager
- midori pointing to localhost
- the output is optimized for a 7" TFT display.

This feature can be turned on / off on the settings page.
Please check if it is enabled.

If it is enabled something goes wrong on your installation.
Please check the log files (MENU->Debug)
Also check the output of:
journalctl

Hi Frank,
Thanks a lot for your quick answer and right advice.
I wrote again an image of RuneAudio and this starts as expected with the Rune UI display.
Now I have to adapt the display as the image is reduced compared to the screen size, and also install the touch screen drivers to see if can control the player with this feature.
Is there screen size parameters that can be changed in the installation?
Also how to install ans setup touch screen drivers?
Thanks a lot!

Hi zakkW,

Now I have to adapt the display as the image is reduced compared to the screen size,

The resolution is the right one? The browser fills your display?

The HDMI output is optimized for 7" touch displays, you can zoom in with CTRL & + or out with CTRL & -.
For a persistant setting you have to edit "/root/.config/midori/config" see here.

Also how to install ans setup touch screen drivers?

Without knowing what TFT you are using it is hard to help.

The debug output maybe very helpfull for this.

Hi Frank,

The HDMI 5" screen has a native resolution of 800 x 480 and I have a right blank area displayed...
I read that I could modify boot/config.txt file by adding the following:

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=1
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

But I'm not right now at home to check it out.
Related to touch screen, it's based on a XPT2046 device where some infos are given here:

Thanks again for your support!
