Missing wifi

Postby Sixty12 » 22 Sep 2017, 13:04

First time Pi user here.

Setting up was easy. Everything doing what it should. Except the wifi.

I cannot seem to connect. Ethernet works fine. But wifi doesn't appear at all.

Just a big red X next to the wlan0 option. Searching for a network doesn't work.

Am I missing something?

I have a tp-link usb wifi plugged in. It works fine with the raspberry Pi OS.

It's a TP-LINK TL-WN725N N150 Nano USB Wireless Adapter.

I have a RPi 3.

Any ideas would be appreciated..I'm scratching my head here.

Hi,

It's a TP-LINK TL-WN725N N150 Nano USB Wireless Adapter.

Arch Linux (Rune is based on) doesn't support these dongles by default.

I have a RPi 3.

Is the internal WiFi disabled?

To get the best possible support, please specify your hardware and RuneAudio version. Collecting debug info is also suggested.

Hi Sixty12 & hondagx35,

See this post: wifi-driver-update-for-unsupported-chip-sets-t4814.html#p21549

It solved my problems with unsupported WiFi dongles.

Hi Janui and hondagx35

thanks for the feedback. I thought it might be a compatibility issue with the TP-Link dongle.

I setup the NOOBS OS on another SD card and the TP-Link dongle works fine, so its an issue somewhere in the rune audio back end.

I tried your post but got nowhere. I tried a bunch of other stuff, but since this is my first time with a RPi and how it all works, I'm going to go for the easy way out and try another dongle, to see if that works.

The rest of it all seems great though and I'm looking forward to getting it all hooked up properly and connected to my Stereo.

This will be the setup:
Raspberry Pi 3 model B
Looking to setup a Samsung Evo 850 SSD to it with my music catalogue.
Straight USB connection to an internal DAC on a Moon 340i.
Controlled via an iphone 6s through the RuneAudioUI.

The USB wifi dongle is really just to control the RPi. I may eventually stream content from a NAS, but at this stage I want it all self contained.

I will look to house it all in an audio style chassis.

any other suggestions would always be helpful.

cheers.

Hi Sixty12,

please post your debug data and answer my question to get help.

The Pi3 has a builtin wifi that should work.
You can try my latest image from here.

Hi frank

I will do that shortly. Thank you. I really appreciate it.

I swapped that wifi dongle for a different brand. But still no luck. (I don’t have on hand to say what it is unfortunately)

I created a wifi profile and it appears and shows a signal strength and everything but when I go to connect it just reverts back. I will do some screen grabs as well. To show you what I mean.

I don’t know what I’m missing in the setup. Getting a little frustrating (just ask my wife) as everything else is looking great and the other processes have been easy.

Cheers
Alan

Hi Frank

here's the debug info.
https://pastebin.com/vPhiSYZX

My setup is as follows:
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Edimax EW-7811UN Nano USB Wifi
RuneAudio_rpi2_rp3_0.4-beta_20170229_2GB build

I'm sure its a simple fix or oversight at my end.

I am totally new to all of this, but I do appreciate the support.

The screen shot shows that there is a signal when I create a profile, but it doesn't connect at all. and it doesn't appear when I scan for networks.

cheers

Hi Alan,

as I told you before your Pi has a built-in wifi.

If you like to use an external USB wifi dongle you should disable the internal.
This can be done by editing the file /boot/config.txt

Hi Frank

Just wanted to thank you for your help.

It's finally working!

I tried your suggestion but I had no luck, I couldn't figure out what I was missing, It started giving me port connection issues (and a headache), so I left it. But fired it up tonight and bingo!

So thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Now the fun begins.
