Port setup to ansible

Postby Dukobpa3 » 09 Sep 2014, 13:49

Hi guys.
Why do you prefer your own image instead of build/configuration service?
I think it would be great feature to setup ansible and then just launch it to config and run all services.
There are many same tools, but ansible is written on pythone which is in all linux distrubs.
Also ansible very lightweight (about 700k).
http://docs.ansible.com/index.html
Also ansible have many modules for each configuration task
http://docs.ansible.com/modules_by_category.html

With this tool you can easy to make just one soft config for all platforms and all distrubs.

I like your project but preferred raspbian with my own config.
I got many features from your releases :)
Thx for your work.

Hi Dukobpa3,
I didn't know Ansible, interesting service indeed. But it is a commercial tool and I don't see any special plans for open source organizations, is there any?
Anyway we decided to go with our own image with the final goal of building an highly optimized embedded system, both on disk space and sound quality.

I got your point. Thx for answer.

P.S.
Ansible is free itself.
Maybe it is have some additional tools for purchase.

I didn't get that it lays on a open-source software platform, sorry for the misunderstanding. Maybe we could use it in the future for some specific purpose (we have some features in our future roadmap that could take advantage from that). Thank you for the recommendation!

Maybe it will not be ansible. There are too many similar tools. It s all has some differences. You can do your choice, depends on your tasks.
buildbot
fabric
etc.

Anyway I think that it would be great to have some "setup embedded media with your preferred platform" instead of "download our preinstalled image".

It would be nice, but in that way it would also be harder to apply deep optmizations in order to achieve the best sound quality, which is our primary goal.
