Odroid C1+ distortion with flac and wave files

Postby Deadmau5 » 27 Dec 2015, 14:06

First thank you for developing runeaudio ;)

I bought the Odroid C1+ and a PCM5102A I2S DAC. To activate the DAC I removed the #, when I choose the Odroid DAC in the settings, my DAC is fully recognized. When I play mp3 files (320kbps) everything works really fine - there is no distortion. But when I play FLAC and Wave files there is a lot of distortion. Especially when I turn down the software volume to 1, it's louder then the music itself (but only with FLAC and Wave files not with mp3 files). Has anyone an idea to solve the problem?

I had no issue with the HiFi-Shield(PCM5102) with a bunch of 192Khz/24bit FLAC files.

Let me know the sample rates of MP3, FLAC and Wave files.
You might need to shorten the cable length of I2S bus the distortion occurs only when the high sample rate music plays.

Sorry for my late reply - I'm writing my bachelor thesis and don't have much time for my acoustic hobby at the moment...

My Odroid C1+ and PCM5102A combination is directly connected to the Dynaudio Focus 110A speakers (those are active speakers without volume control -> max amp) thats why I'm using the software volume control. Here are some tests I made and the resulsts...

I found another post in the forum here with the same problems of noise http://www.runeaudio.com/forum/switch-to-mpg123-decoder-for-mp3-t171.html

I also made some measurements with ARTA (Audio Measurement and Analysis Software) THD datas are in the 0.00x [%] area with 24bit/48kHz and in the 0.x [%] area with 16bit/44.1kHz (1kHz Sinus, max runeaudio software volume, wave files).

Later I set up my own MPD system (Lubuntu/MPD/GMPC) with the Odroid C1+ and PCM5102 configured to play via ALSA Mixer and I had no noise problems. I think there are decoder problems with runeaudio - I had no time yet to look at runeaudios config file. Which decoders are implemented in runeaudio and can be activated/deactivated? And which are the default decoders in MPD? Michael Jacksons Beat It was played in both system about 4 times to slow. Is the Odroid C1+ capable to play 176.4 kHz files? In the S805 Datasheet http://dn.odroid.com/S805/Datasheet/S805_Datasheet%20V0.8%2020150126.pdf on page 23 there is no entry for 88.2 and 176.4 kHz frequencies but it plays 88.2 kHz files fine...

Hello,

The problem of 176.4Khz seems to be a DAC/I2S device driver issue.
Can you give any link of 176.4 kHz sampled audio clips? I will try to find a real root cause.
